It's hard not to think of those in need, especially in such tough times around the world during Covid 19. We feel extremely grateful to know that incredible social enterprises exist like Trade Aid New Zealand who are actively making a difference.
Founded right here in Christchurch in 1973 by Vi and Richard Cottrell, they now have a network of 31 shops stretching across the country and are still 100% committed to a way of trade which helps improve the lives of the talented producers and artisans they work with.
The Covid-19 crisis has significantly impacted the retail industry and as we look towards the future, we can seek inspiration from Trade Aid’s alternative way of doing business. They source handmade, fair trade products from more than 65 trading partner organisations, which represent hundreds and thousands of small-scale farmers and artisans in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Palestine and the Pacific.
Their admirable work has not gone unnoticed across the globe, in 1994 Viv received a Queen’s service medal for her commitment to trade aid and she has personally met the Dalai Lama.
Thank you Trade Aid for all the great work that you do, located here at The Colombo.
