Three cheers for the King!

Whether you are a Royalist or not, who doesn’t love a good Coronation! Here at The Colombo we have broken out the bunting and the Union Jacks ahead of the King’s big day on May 6.

We have even tracked down some of our retailers quite happy to revel in the label ‘Royalist’.

Catriona Masterson of The Sydenham Pharmacy is one of them. Catriona loves the pomp and pageantry of it all and is looking forward to watching the gilded carriage parade through the streets of London. “And I like seeing what everyone’s wearing too.”

For Catriona, the attraction of the Royals is that they “take you out of the real world for bit”, something we all need.

Over at the Anna Stretton store, Angela Gilmour is equally enamoured by the Royals and definitely has a date in front of the telly to watch the whole Coronation proceedings.

She is even busting out a crown (one she prepared earlier) to help her get in the vibe. Decorations for the gold and white-lace creation came from her neighbour in The Colombo, French Country Collections.

“It’s just all so glamorous and romantic. There’s the really old ceremonial aspects to the day but you know it’s also going to be a real outing for the fashion designers. I just love it,” Angela says.

At Sweet Société, Harriet Kitchingman is letting the colours do the talking with a special Coronation Meringue and a cuppa. Red, white and brewed!

For The Sydenham Pharmacy’s Catriona, her devotion to the Royals grew in the 12 years she lived in Britain, during which she toured Windsor Castle and lapped up the regular parades.

Asked if the Royal Family is still relevant, Catriona’s is a firm yes. “What would you have in their place? You look around the world and there’s plenty of bad examples. They’re safe hands.”
